How to Make Healthy Recipes For Kids

If selling real estate is all about location, location, location, then when making healthy recipes for kids, it’s all about presentation, presentation, presentation. You can talk all you want about all the essential vitamins and minerals and complex carbohydrates, etc, etc that a food contains, but when a child is looking at a mixed bowl of fruit, all they see is ‘yuck’.

The key to getting children to try healthy foods is to present it in a fun and imaginative way. You are the only one who needs to know that what they’re eating is healthy and nutritious. For the kids, it is simply a fun, interesting and imaginative way to eat food. For example, is a child more likely to eat a bowl filled with banana, red grapes, kiwi, star fruit, cantaloupe and strawberry, or a “Happy Snack Face” (bunch of red grapes for hair, kiwi slices for eyes, strawberry for nose, cantaloupe slices for ears, banana for mouth and star fruit for cheeks – all served on a brightly colored round plate).

All you need to do is take the healthy foods you want to introduce and present them so that:

It has a cool name kids can relate to, like Happy Snack Face. So before your child even sees what it is, they are curious to find out.
It is colorful – red grapes & strawberry, green kiwi, yellow star fruit & banana, orange cantaloupe.
It is arranged in a shape or pattern that kids can identify with – Happy Face.
It has kid friendly textures (in this case juicy fruits, but just as easily made from crisp or crunchy vegetables).

By arranging the foods into patterns that kids can recognize, you also have the opportunity to get them involved in the preparation. After you child devours the Happy Snack Face, you might suggest that for snack tomorrow, he prepare a Scary Snack Face. You cut up the fruits and he can arrange them on the plate.  The more involved a child is in the selection and preparation of their meals, the more likely they will eat it, enjoy it, and want to have it again. Not only does this start to get them interested in what they are eating, but it also lays the foundation for healthy eating habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

In order for a healthy recipe to be a hit with kids, it needs to be appealing, so give them what they want. Use recipes that combine imaginative names, bright colors, and kid friendly shapes for a sure fire hit. So like I said before, it’s all about presentation.

Losing weight is a necessity for many people since there are more and more desk jobs these days, and there is a lack of physical activity. The starting point of losing weight is to eat healthy.

Incorporating low GI recipes in daily life has multiple healthy advantages. GI means glycemic index, which corresponds to the carbohydrates that are sugars in every food item. High GI causes fluctuations in sugar levels of the body which poses many problems to the body. Losing weight becomes very difficult, once the sugar level in the blood goes up and insulin is released.

Small changes to the normal recipes that are prepared at home every day, is the key to low GI recipes. Usage of sugar in almost every recipe is important, since GI of sugar is substantially high. Also, replacing bread with whole wheat options, and including fresh vegetables and fruits in the daily diet helps to manage weight effectively. Yogurt substituted for a dessert is a good diet change since it is low in GI.

Anything that is prepared with oatmeal is a great example of low GI recipe. Substituting corn and rice cereals with oatmeal ones, work very well with weight management plan.  Oatmeal pancakes are also a good alternative for the regular pancakes, since they are tasty and low in GI.

Baked fish recipes are another example of low GI recipes for lunch or dinner. Low GI does not mean tasteless uninteresting food every day.  A simple search on the web will give thousands of options for low GI foods, and even holiday cooking using low GI foods. A chart indicating the GI of the most common food that we eat everyday is available on various health sites on the internet. Below is one tasty Low GI recipe for breakfast option:

Oatmeal Pancakes:

Mix ¾ cup of oatmeal with 1and ½ cup of whole wheat flour (whole wheat flour has lower GI than refined flour). Add one teaspoon of baking powder. Mix the flour mixture with 1and ½ cups of buttermilk and 2 beaten eggs. Whisk it until a smooth batter is formed. Add salt to taste and whisk until properly mixed. Adding two table spoons of butter is optional, but this will make pancakes rich in fat. Grease the pan with little oil and pour one cup of the batter. Bake thoroughly on both sides until golden brown. These pancakes taste great with cut fruit toppings of any kind.

Tossed salad with homemade dressing is a great accompaniment to any lunch or dinner. Eating light at dinner is always recommended. Using olive oil for cooking and salad dressing is a very healthy option for people trying to lose weight. Four Recipes For Kids Lunch Boxes

Finding recipes for kids lunch boxes can be tricky. Most parents just reheat last night’s dinner left overs and send their kids on their way. Lunch is a pretty important meal during a child’s day, though, so if you have more time to think about and make what your kids will be taking to lunch at school, put in the extra effort. Making sure your kids are eating right in the middle of the day will definitely pay off in the future! Here are four recipes for kids lunch boxes:

· Tortilla Wrap

This is easy to do, and you can still use the leftovers! Wrap some meat and vegetables in a tortilla. You can add salsa, cheese, and/or sour cream if you like. Brown rice and beans are good additions too! Roll it up and put it in a sandwich bag or you can wrap it up in foil so it’s easy to hold. It’s a no fuss recipe that most kids will love, and it covers four of the five major food groups. Plus, you’re sure it’ll be healthier than anything your child can but at the school cafeteria!

· Chicken Salad Sandwich

Put some chopped chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber between slices of whole wheat bread. You can add cheese or salad dressing to this sandwich to make it yummier and more appealing. Remember that you don’t have to use chicken. You can substitute chicken for tuna, sliced beef, or sliced turkey. Almost any member of the protein group will go well with this sandwich, and so you can actually mix it up and have a different one everyday!

· Meatball Sub

Grab a mini baguette and line it with mustard (if your kid likes mustard), mayonnaise, cheese, tomatoes, and pickles. Put in some meatballs cooked in tomato sauce (you can use the leftovers from the spaghetti and meatballs you served the other night), and top it off with some sour cream. Wrap this well in a sandwich wrapper or foil, and your kid is ready to go!

· Croquettes

This recipe takes a bit more time to prepare. You can do the prep for it the night before, and just do the frying on the morning you’re going to pack it. While frying isn’t the healthiest form of cooking because of the excessive oil, croquettes are easy finger foods for kids. You can shape them into ping pong balls to make them easier to eat. Stuff them with mashed potatoes, tuna, turkey, or other healthy proteins. You can also just stuff them with bechamel and cheese, and your kids are in for a tasty treat!

Always try to put in a juice box and fruit cup into the lunch box apart from the above suggestions. Yogurt and granola bars can also work as a sweet snack. Ask your children what “extras” they’d like in their lunch boxes and keep them healthy!

Healthy Recipes For Dinner

In the life of today’s world, it seems as if everyone is trying to look for a quick and easy recipe that is healthy. When you finally come across that one recipe that you have been looking for, you find that it requires a ton of stuff. You plan the meal, sit down and make that grocery list, drive to the store, do the shopping, check out, pay the bill and drive back and prepare that meal.

If you already had a full meal for lunch, you most likely don’t feel like something so filling again for supper. If you want to eat healthy and balanced, then it’s a great idea to choose something light for dinner, especially if your lunch had quite some calories today. And seeing that you already cooked, you definitely don’t want to stand behind the stove again, so it should be an easy non-cooking recipe.

Parents are usually busy trying to work extra time to fend for the children, while at the same time taking care of several chores and other necessities at home. There is hardly any time left to prepare a decent meal when the kids come home from school. Most would just make do with buying food outside. This habit is expensive however, and strains the pockets after a while.

Dinner is the one meal where people overindulge. Some people starve throughout the day – avoiding lunch and breakfast – and they find themselves overeating during dinner. This can lead to unintentional weight gain and frustration for people who want to stay fit. Eat a light, healthy dinner and make sure you don’t plan meals while hungry. Some dieters eat the largest meal during the morning and eat the lightest at night.

For each serving use one chicken breast with the skin on. Slice a lemon, lime and orange. Place a slice of each under the skin directly on the meat of the breast. Place the breasts on the remaining slices of fruit. Squeeze additional citrus juice over the breasts. Salt and Pepper to taste. Bake in a slow oven 300 degrees for about an hour until the chicken is done. Slow roasting preserves the juiciness of the chicken.

If you’re a pasta and pizza lover like me, you can reeve up the fiber content and lower the GI numbers by either mixing in whole wheat flour if you make your own dough or purchase one of the popular commercial whole wheat dough like Boboli. The Barilla Plus brand, has develop a multi-grain pasta that retains the fiber yet taste pretty good.

Besides being so versatile, it is packed with nutrients and protein. You do not have to feel guilty about eating too much cod, since in Alaska it is raised and harvested responsibly. This means that they are raised naturally, treated without harm, and are sustainable. They are abundant by nature, so you will be able to enjoy cod as part of your diet for a long time to come.

If you have children in your life then you know it can sometimes be a challenge finding foods they like that are good for them too. After serving meatloaf and chicken fingers for the nine hundredth time, it sometimes feels like you’ll never get out of the “What’s for dinner?” rut. At Recipe4Living we know how hard it is to get your kids to eat a nutritious meal. That’s why we’ve put together a collection of recipes for children that you’ll like too

Spanish eggs roll and this can be done for either lunch or breakfast and to make this you just scramble the eggs in the normal fashion and then add all the diced onions and peepers to your liking. After that process you can just shred some cheese on the top of the eggs and then roll it in a tortilla. The last recipe is the raw food recipe and this is prepared by putting natural grains with fruits and nuts and combining these to either water or milk.
